Echt

Echt church, built 1804

Echt is a village and parish in Aberdeenshire with a population of approximately 300 people. Echt has a number of prehistoric remains, including the so-called Barmekin of Echt which is on a hill to the north-west. There is also the Cullerlie Stone Circle near Sunhoney Farm, which may date from the Bronze Age.

Echt contains a church, village shop/post office, restaurant (Echt Tandoori) and park which is used for local football matches and the annual Echt Show, a farmers' show. There is also a retail art gallery, Redwood Gallery, and an adjoining tea Iroom, Redwood Gallery Tearoom, believed to be the smallest cafe in the world.

It is centred on the crossroads of the B977 Dunecht—Banchory road and the B9119 Kingsford—Ordie road. It is some 12½ miles from the county town, the city of Aberdeen.
