East Marden is a village on the spur of the South Downs in Sussex; in the Rape of Chichester in the west of the county.
The village is first mentioned in the Domesday Book as Meredone and was given in 1086 to Roger, Earl of Montgomery.[1] The church, St Peter dates from the 12th century.[2]
The oldest house today in the village dates back to 1728.[3] The village's most famous landmark is the thatched well on the village green.[4]
The population has remained static for over a century.
