Information |
Drip Bridge is a modern, concrete bridge carrying the A84 trunk road over the River Forth as it heads westwards out of Stirling. It crosses from Stirlingshire on the eastern bank of the river to Perthshire on the western bank, the crossing point being just upstream of the point where the Forth unites with the River Teith.
The bridge purloined its name from the original, stone bridge on the Forth, now known as the Old Bridge and which stands beside the new, a few yards upstream. The Old Bridge carried the main road now represented by the A84 until the new Drip Bridge was built.
The tiny hamlet gathered around the bridges on the Perthshire bank is also known as 'Drip Bridge', with 'Hill of Drip' a farmstead up the lane from it.
