Choiseul Sound from Darwin
Location of Choiseul Sound

Choiseul Sound is an inlet of the sea on the east coast of East Falkland, amongst the Falkland Islands. Choiseul Sound runs parallel to Eagle Passage and extends between Lafonia and the north of East Falkland: Choiseul Sound from the east and Brenton Loch from the west nearly split Lafonia off; the two inlets are separated just by a couple of miles of the isthmus on which Darwin and Goose Green stand.

Lively Island is in the mouth of Choiseaul Sound. At its entrance, on the northern shore, is the Bertha's Beach Important Bird Area which is also a Ramsar site, recognising it as a wetland of international importance. Its head is Darwin Harbour.

The Sound was named by Louis de Bougainville after the French Foreign Secretary, the Étienne François, duc de Choiseul.[1]
