Cheldon is a hamlet in north-eastern Devon, above the steep valley of the Little Dart River, five miles above the point where it falls into the River Taw and three miles east of Chulmleigh. The nearest village of any size is Chawleigh, on the other side of the Little Dart.

Despite its size, Cheldon has a church, St Mary, in the Parish of Cheldon. St Mary's (a Grade II* listed building)[1] is a fifteenth century church as to mosyt of its fabric, in the nave, chancel and probably the west tower. It underwent an extensive restoration in the nineteenth century, with new windows and an upper section of tower.
