Bulphan is a village and ancient parish in the south of Essex. It is pronounced 'Bull-ven' though newcomers often mispronounce it as 'Bul-fan'.
Bulphan is located 21 miles east-north-east of Charing Cross in London. The Upminster post town forms protrusion eastwards over the M25 motorway in order to include the village.
The main features of Bulphan are the Bulphan Village Hall and Park, St Mary The Virgin Church, the Village Shop and Bulphan Church Of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School. The church is a grade I listed building.[1]
Bulphan is fairly isolated and only has three bus services: the 265, which runs up to twice per day, Monday to Saturday, between Brentwood and Lakeside Shopping Centre; the 564 to Grays (five times per day, Monday to Saturday) and the 565 to Brentwood Station via West Horndon (six times per day, Monday to Saturday). School buses also connect Bulphan with Palmers College in Grays, and the 269 service stops on the A128 en route to Thurrock College. The nearest railway station is three miles away.
Education
Primary education has been provided by the Bulphan Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School since 1853. Located on Fen lane, it educates around 84 pupils.
