Buchanan is a parish in in the far west of Stirlingshire. The western and southern boundaries of the parish also form the county border with Dunbartonshire whilst the north-eastern boundary also forms the county border with Perthshire. The south-eastern boundary with the parish of Drymen is the sole link with the rest of Stirlingshire.
It includes a large part of the eastern shore of Loch Lomond and the islands of Inchcruin, Innis Fada, Inchcailloch and Clairinsh. The most populated village in the parish is Milton of Buchanan, but the village that is most popular with tourists is Balmaha.
