Bentley Wood is a woodland in Wiltshire, close to the border with Hampshire near the village of West Tytherley. Bentley Wood and the adjacent Blackmoor Copse form one of the largest contiguous areas of woodland in the county.
Protected status
Apart form being a pretty woodland for walks and enjoyment, an area of 1,643 acres of the wood has been notified as a 'biological Site of Special Scientific Interest' since 1985. The site is important for butterflies; species present including Purple Emperor (Apatura iris), White Admiral (Limenitis Camilla) and Pearl-bordered Fritillary.
