Bembridge Harbour
Bembridge Harbour is a sheltered haven on the east coast of the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, formed by the estuary of the Eastern Yar. On the north shore at the head of the harbour is the village of St Helens, while on the south shore at the mouth of the harbour is Bembridge.
The Yar is a minor river in comparison to those on the mainland but until the dawn of the modern era it formed a large tidal harbour extending deep into the east of the island to form Brading Harbour. Gradual silting closed Brading to vessels and this and reclamation have transformed the area of this water into Brading Marsh, leaving just Bembridge Harbour open.
A spit on the north side sheltering the mouth of the harbour, known as the Duver belongs to the National Trust. Facing it with a gap of two hundred yards or so is Bembridge Point.
