Bedgrove, once an agricultural hamlet, is now a housing estate within the swollen townscape of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, on the south side of the town. At the 2001 census, the population of Bedgrove was 9,171.

The estate takes its name from a farm and hamlet that stood in the area until the area was cleared for building in the late 1950s. At the time it was built it was the largest housing estate of its kind in the country. The farm and associated cottages stood approximately where Pevensey Close now stands.

Caldicot

There was once a village here named Caldicot, old in origin as it is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. No trace now remains. It is thought to have been situated approximately where Caldicot Close is today, which gave a name to the new road.

The village or estate has three churches:

• Church of England: The Church of the Holy Spirit
• Baptist: Bedgrove Baptist Church, on Limes Avenue
• Roman Catholic: Our Lady of Lourdes

About the village

There are two schools here, Bedgrove Infant School and Bedgrove Junior School.

Bedgrove Park is a large field with many football pitches, a community centre, a playground designed for 2-12 year olds and an all-weather pitch designed for youths to play football and netball.

In the heart of Bedgrove is Jansel Square, which has of several take away restaurants (Chinese and fish and chips) and a goodly range of local shops including a general store, a newsagent, post office, charity shop and a supermarket.

The village pub is 'The Buckinghamshire Yeoman', in Jansel Square.
