The Balnagowan River

The Balnagown River is a small river flowing through the east of Ross-shire and, in its final stretch through Cromartyshire, entering the Cromarty Firth in Nigg Bay.

The river rises in a number of stream off the hills, descending south-east to Strath Rory as the Strathrory River. The strath runs eastwards in a narrow fold in the hills of Easter Ross which flows eastwards before emerging to the coastal region by Scotsburn, below which it is named the Balnagown River.

By the A9 river, between Kildary and Milton, the river enters Cromartyshire, and flows south-eastwards to the sea, its waters flowing over the Nigg Sands.
