Axmouth is a village in eastern Devon, found near the mouth of the River Axe, as the river empties into the English Channel. The village itself is not on the sea but about half a mile inland, on the eastern shore of the Axe's long, tidal estuary. Opposite Axmouth on the west shore is Seaton, which does reach the open sea.
According to the 2001 census, the parish of Axmouth had a population of 493.
About the village
The village includes some thatched cottages.
The parish church, St Michael's, has a fifteenth-century tower and a carved Norman doorway and pillars.
Bindon House is a nearby Tudor house. The remains of a hill fort can be seen on Hawkesdown Hill above the village. An early concrete bridge crosses the mouth of the river close to the harbour which is home to a yacht club.[1]
