Arrowsmith Peninsula
The Arrowsmith Peninsula extends from the Loubet Coast of Graham Land in the British Antarctic Territory. The peninsula is found to the west of the Forel Glacier and the Sharp Glacier, facing Adelaide Island to the west.
It was discovered by the French Antarctic Expedition of 1908-10 under Charcot, and was then thought to be an island. It was mapped as a peninsula by the British Graham Land Expedition of 1938. It was surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from "Stonington Island" in 1948 and from "Detaille Island" and "Horseshoe Island" in 1955-57, and confirmed as a peninsula.
The Arrowsmith Peninsula is named after Sir Edwin Porter Arrowsmith (b. 1909), Governor of the Falkland Islands and Dependencies from 1957 to 1964, and High Commissioner for the British Antarctic Territory from 1962 to 1964.
