Aikhead is a little village in Cumberland, on the coastal plain a mile and a half north-west of Wigton. This is broad pastureland, the broad skies tamed though but the pylons carrying past the village the main power lines out of the Sellafield nuclear power station.
The village was the residence of the leading geologist John Rooke.[1]
