The Vale of Taunton

The Vale of Taunton is a verdant, lowlying region of Somerset, wich has the county town, Taunton at its heart.

The Vale runs from the foot of the steep northern scarp of the Blackdown Hills to the coast of the Bristol Channel. In the west it extends between the Quantock Hills and the Brendon Hills on the eastern edge of Exmoor: to the east it extends between the Quantock Hills and the Somerset Levels.

Much of the region is verdant and pastoral, right to the edge of the hills: the hills staring down upon the vale include the moorland-topped hills of Exmoor and the gentler Quantocks.
