Hob Holes in Runswick

The Hob Holes are caves in the cliffs of Runswick Bay in the North Riding of Yorkshire. They result from mining for jet, which is a form of fossilised wood valuable as a gemstone. The name was given by local tradition that a hobgoblin lived there.
