Balmoral Castle

Balmoral Castle is the Queen's Highland residence, grand house standing in the parish of Crathie and Braemar in Aberdeenshire, within the area that has come to be known as 'Royal Deeside'. The estate is near the village of Crathie, six miles west of Ballater and seven miles east of Braemar.

This has been a royal residences since 1852, when the estate was purchased by Prince Albert. Soon afterwards, the existing house was found to be too small and the current Balmoral Castle was commissioned. The architect was William Smith of Aberdeen, although his designs were amended by Prince Albert himself. (Read more)
