Burtoft is a hamlet near Wigtoft in Holland, the south-eastern part of Lincolnshire, some seven miles south-west of the market town of Boston.[1]

Burtoft is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.[2] It records that the manor belonged before the Norman Conquest to Crowland Abbey and by 1086 the Abbey was tenant in chief, while the immediate lordship belonged to Kolgrim (a Danish-English thegn who held various estates before and after the Conquest).
