Achlyness is a hamlet strung along a minor, dead-end road in a bleak, beautiful location on the south-west shore of Loch Inchard, a sea-loch indenting Sutherland's west coast. Just to the south-east, at the head of the loch, is Rhiconich, a place barely bigger but known as being on the main road.
