Dalmellington

Dalmellington is a small market town in Ayrshire. The town may owe its origin to its position on the geological faultline separating the Southern Uplands from the Central Lowlands, as Dalmellington sits at the issue of a river from the uplands into Dalmellington Moss plain.

Geology has in past ages blessed the place with accessible coal, though the open cast mine which scarred 1,834 acres of the landscape for generations has closed. The town has other history as a market town and weaving centre. (Read more)
