On Selkirk Common

Selkirk Common is an extensive, farmed downland to the south-west of Selkirk, and in the very west of Selkirkshire.

The town's Common Riding takes place all around the common, an ancient ceremony found in many of the little towns of the shires along the Tweed - the Selkirk Common Riding was once the duty of the "Burleymen" (the 'Burgh Law men') who had the task of ensuring no one was encroaching on the town‘s common lands.[1]
