Hadrian's Wall at Hare Hill

Hare Hill in Cumberland is the site of the tallest remaining stretch of Hadrian's Wall

The wall here stands up to ten feet high. It probably survived because it was later built into the wall of a mediæval structure.

In the 19th century the wall was substantially rebuilt, using Roman masonry which was probably retrieved from the surrounding area. Today it is in the care of English Heritage.
