Beinn Teallach
Inverness-shire
Range: Monadhliath Mountains
Summit: 3,002 feet NN361859

Beinn Teallach is a mountain amongst the Monadhliath Mountains of Inverness-shire. At 3,002 feet, it narrowly qualifies as a Munro; a status it has held since the 1984 revision of the Tables, when after careful measurement, it was found to be 3,001 feet and thus just to qualify. It is the given Munro number 282: the shortest of the 282 recognised and listed Munros.

The name Beinn Teallach means "Forge Mountain".

Overview

This is the most westerly Munro in the Monadh Liath and is normally climbed in conjunction with Beinn a' Chaorainn a maile and half to the east, to which it is connected by a low bealach on Beinn Teallach's northeast ridge.

Beinn Teallach has not quite the excitement of Beinn a' Chaorainn, and is more rounded than sharp, but does possess some fine plunging crags on its eastern slopes. The slopes of Beinn Teallach are bitten into by several corries giving many summit ridges the best of these being to the northwest and northeast, with craggy slopes on either side of them.

Ascent

The climb with Beinn a' Chaorainn can be done from the A86 (Roughburn), and up the pleasant south ridge. From the Beinn Teallach summit, the northeast ridge crossing over a low bealach to Beinn a' Chaorainn, which route also presents the east face of Beinn Teallach, reckoned its best feature.

There is parking available at Roughburn off the A86. The entire walk if including Beinn a Chaorainn is around 9 miles.
