Traeth Bach
Traeth Bach, formerly known also as Traeth Bychan is the broad tidal sand beach on the south bank of the joint estuary of the River Dwyryd and River Glaslyn; the Dwyryd enters from the south and at low tide the sands of the Traeth Bach extend as broad as a mile from the shore on the south bank of the channel of the Dwyfyr and that of the united channel of the rivers to the open sea. It is all covered at high water, the estuary broad form shore to shore.
The name "Traeth Bach" means "little beach", in contrast with the Traeth Mawr ("Great Beach") which was once a similar tidal flat on the banks of the Glaslyn to the north, drained by Maddocks under the authority of a private Act of Parliament by the creation of the Cob over the latter river. Traeth Bach however remains untamed.
Portmeirion stands by the north shore of the Dwyryd overlooking Traeth Bach.
