Shottermill is a village in Surrey near Haslemere. It is in the very south-western corner of Surrey, in the bulge hard up against the borders with Sussex to the south across the bourne which swells the nascent River Wey and Hampshire to the west across the woods. On the Sussex side of the bourne, linked by a single bridge, is the village of Hammer

The village's population is not known for certain, being part of the census area Linchmere which has a population of 2,225.

George Eliot, novelist, had a cottage on Shottermill Common, where she wrote most of Middlemarch.

Parish church

The parish church is St Stephen's. It was built in 1841, originally consisting only of the present nave, and began life as St. Stephen's Chapel within the Parish of Frensham. A tower was incorporated in the planning, and nave and tower were completed in 1846 being consecrated on 24th March by the Rt Rev C R Sumner, Bishop of Winchester.
