Wedmore

Wedmore is a village in Somerset, standing on raised ground (the 'Isle of Wedmore') in the depths of the Somerset Levels between the Rivers Axe and Brue. It is to be found four miles south of Cheddar, seven miles west of the City of Wells.

A modest village but a centre amongst the surrounding farmsteads, Wedmore has fair local facilities for the surrounding farms and several small shops. It is most famous for the Treaty of Wedmore of 878, in which King Alfred and Guthrum settled a division of England between Wessex and the invading Danes. (Read more)
