Bangor-on-Dee

Bangor-on-Dee is a village in the district of Maelor Saesneg, the main detached part of Flintshire, situated on the banks of the River Dee.

A monastery was established at Bangor in about 560 by St Dunod, which gave it the name Bangor Monachorum ('Bangor of the monks'), recorded in 1677. The Welsh language name, Bangor-is-y-Coed means 'Bangor below the wood', a name recorded in 1699. (Read more)
