Carn Liath
Range: Monadhliath Mountains
Summit: 3,301 feet NN472903

Càrn Liath is a mountain in the western part of the Monadhliath Mountains of Inverness-shire. It stands at a height of 3,301 feet at its summit, and so it qualifies as a Munro.

This mountain is part of smaller group known as the Creag Meagaidh group, after the mountain Creag Meagaidh, a mountain group with a three Munros; Creag Meagaidh, Carn Liath and Stob Poite Coire Ardair, of which group Carn Liath easternmost.

The mountain stands as a high point on a long ridge running from the summit of Stob Poite Coire Ardair in the west to the River Spey in the east. To the north there are easy slopes leading down to the Glenshirra Forest but south there are much craggier slopes particularly west of the summit where the back walls of Coire Ardair are a formidable sight.

From the rounded summit there are fine views west of the complex Creag Meagaidh group and the back headwall of Coire Ardair.

Ascent

Carn Liath is normally climbed in the group of 3 Munros, and usually from south at the A86 where there is a large car park. Carn Liath alone may be climbed from the west, by the connecting ridge with Stob Poite Coire Ardair.
