From 2014, the Chagos Conservation Trust carried out a rat eradication programme, to remove invasive black rats from Sea Cow Island. Sea Cow Island, also known as Île Vache Marine, is a round island of 44 acres on the Great Chagos Bank of the Chagos Archipelago which forms the British Indian Ocean Territory.
