Holwick Head Footbridge crosses the River Tees, between County Durham on the north bank and the North Riding of Yorkshire on the south, allowing walkers on the Pennine Way a route across the river to the path up to the B6277 and the hotel and car park many use.
The bridge is positioned on the river between Low Force and High Force. It is on the Strathmore Estate, and the first bridge here was built for the Duke of Cleveland, owner of the Estate, in 1896, for which reason it is also known as the Duke's bridge. The bridge was rebuilt by the local council in 1998 as a footbridge. There are paths westward from here to High Force a few hundred yards upstream, and another going east, as part of the Pennine Way.
