Craigavon

Craigavon is a New Town in northern County Armagh. Building began in 1965 and the new town was named after the first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, James Craig, 1st Viscount Craigavon. It was intended to be a linear city incorporating Lurgan and Portadown, but this plan was not carried through and less than half of the work originally proposed was finished, leaving Lurgan and Portadown separate and Craigavon standing between the two.
