The Northamptonshire flag is the proposed flag of the county of Northampton. It has not yet been registered with the Flag Institute.[1]

Design

Devised by Brady Ells, who successfully campaigned to register the flag of Sussex in 2011, the flag combines the red and gold colours found in the arms used by the county council reworked in a cross design that is common among English county flags. On the cross is a rose which has long been the emblem of the county, having appeared on a seal used by local magistrates as far back as 1685. Several local organisations use a rose as their insignia including the county's police service, the county football association and the county cricket team. The dark red hue of the flag is that used by the local cricket team; it lends the flag distinctiveness and contrasting very well with the gold charges laid upon it, makes the flag effective and eye-catching.
