Temple, Midlothian

Temple is a village in Midlothian, to the south of Edinburgh, standing on the east bank of the River South-Esk. It takes its name from the Knights Templar, who owned an estate here in the Middle Ages.

Temple has two large houses in the vicinity: Arniston House, built from 1726 for Robert Dundas, Lord President of the Court of Session, and Rosebery House, built around 1805 for Archibald Primrose, 4th Earl of Rosebery. (Read more)
