Black Head is a low, cliff-bound headland on the east coast of County Antrim marking the point where the coast turns the corner at the mouth of Belfast Lough into the North Channel
Standing on the headland is the Blackhead Lighthouse, which marks the mouth of the lough for shipping, and behind it the old lighthouse keepers' cottages.
To the north runs the long eastern coast of the county, where beyond Larne the Antrim Hills reach down to the sea, while to the south os the low, crowded shoreline of Belfast Lough, with the eponymous city at its head. Just a mile to the south-west, on the shore of the lough, is the contrastingly named village of Whitehead.
