Kyparissovounos
Akrotiri and Dhekelia

Kyparissovounos (Κυπαρισσοβουνος) is a hill on the island of Cyprus which lies across the border between Akrotiri and Dhekelia and the Republic of Cyprus. The summit of the hill is in the republic, in the parish of Sotira. The highest point of Akrotiri and Dhekelia is on the ridge of this hill, at the border of the territory.

The name 'Kyparissovounos' is Greek, from the words Kyparissi, meaning "Cypress tree", and Vouno meaning "hill" or "mountain".[1] It is not a unique name on the island.

The hill is close to the south coast of the island, stretching north-south. Its southern shoulder in the Western Sovereign Base Area, north of Episkopi Cantonment. The Symvoulos River flows down form Sotira into the Western SBA just to the east, and the valley of the Symvoulos and the vast reservoir formed in the valley mark the craggy eastern flank of Kyparissovoulos. Beneath the south of the mountain within the Western SBA are bored the twin tunnels of the A6 motorway (the only motorway tunnels on the island).

Territory top

The highest point of Akrotiri and Dhekelia is on the summit ridge of Kyparissolvoulos on the north border of the territory, at 34°42’20"N, 32°50’18"E. The point is marked by a junction of mountain lanes, where the ridge-top road up from the Symvoulos valley splits, roads thence running north and northwest into the interior.

The point is 951 feet above sea level.[1]
