The firm was later taken over by Richard Holmes Laurie (from whom [[Laurie Island]] is named) and was a forerunner of independent chart publishers Imray, Laurie, Norie and Wilson Ltd. The name was chosen in association with [[Purdy Point]], [[Findlay Point]] and [[Laurie Island]]; each after prominent 19th century compilers and publishers of charts and nautical directories.
