Whittle Point

Whittle Point is a headland on the north coast of Coronation Island, amongst the South Orkney Islands in the British Antarctic Territory, between Purdy Point and Findlay Point.

The point is named for James Whittle (1757-1818), partner with Robert Laurie in Laurie and Whittle Ltd. (1794-1818), leading 19th century publishers of maps, charts and nautical works. The firm was later taken over by Richard Holmes Laurie (from whom Laurie Island is named) and was a forerunner of independent chart publishers Imray, Laurie, Norie and Wilson Ltd. The name was chosen in association with Purdy Point, Findlay Point and Laurie Island; each after prominent 19th century compilers and publishers of charts and nautical directories.
