:Hi RB. I see you've done the template for the kit. As you know, not great with code so I would like to ask if you can put two (home and away kits) into the info box. The home kit is red shirts with white sleeves, white shorts and red socks and the away kit is sky blue shirts, white shorts and sky blue socks. Very basic and simple. I have asked Owain to set up the squad table. Once done, I can concentrate on the easy stuff of building the content of the article. I really appreciate both of your time and effort on helping me get the article off the ground.

Football teams

Thank you for your contribution - and welcome to Wikishire.

Sports teams - that's fine. We've not covered them hitherto, simply because of lack of manpower, but the more the merrier, and we are happy to have the material here. I see that Owain has already created the "Sport in Surrey" category for it.

If you think that sports teams needs a template for an infobox, have a think about what form it could usefully take than could be developed.

Many thanks for your message. It's very welcoming. I also appreciate the accommodation granted. I've been searching for the right wiki site and thankfully I've found it. I will endeavour to look into templates. I'm out at the moment but I will start to build the article up soon and I will always be in touch with ideas and any questions I may have.

Keep up the good work. It's a great site!

Many thanks

Stuart

Hi RB (talk), I have some code from Wikipedia regarding the infobox templates. How is it best to give it to you?? Via email? Or shall I just copy and paste it here? All the best. Stu

New templates

If you have the code, just create the new template on Wikishire and see if it works. (If it is an Infobox just call it Template:Infobox team or whatever sounds appropriate; as long as it starts Template:, it will be a template.) I can fiddle with it if I think I can improve it.

We have a couple of jumps on Wikipedia, using the 'Variable' extensions for one and I try to make articles self-categorizing to some extent: the reason I am keen on Infoboxes is that I can put the category functions in the template, picking up from a field:

|county=

If you want a map link to a place, a sports ground or wherever, you can do it with an OS grid reference or with a latitude and longitude. You could have it in an infobox or freestanding, and if the latter, use {{map}} for an OS grid ref or {{wmap}} for latitude and longitude (have a look at how it is done on other pages).

It also helps to tag a page with the relevant county, so that the map templates know which maps to look at. Again, infoboxes do that for you but otherwise you can use {{county}}.

New templates

Hi RB (talk. I am new to code so I'm still learning. I am not too familiar with how you create a template. Can I give you the code? I can email it to you if that helps. I have tried to do it but i am not getting very far.

I'll have a look at it (but not at 11 o'clock at night!) RB (talk) 22:10, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
No probs. Thank you. I tried creating Template:Infobox football club on Wikishire, then I added the code but it hasn't worked. Speak soon. Stu
I don't like to do things by halves, so the infobox should work for any team, amateur or professional, anywhere in the UK, ROI or an overseas territory, and it allows you to change the colour of the box to your shirt colour, by adding a "livery" field (so |livery=red or whatever).
I have got to eliminates a stray series of "}}}}}}}}}}" that has appeared though
I have not worked out how the shirt colour diagram works yet but I will think about it.
Addlestone is named after a town in Surrey but has a ground in Hanworth in Middlesex, so I put both counties in. RB (talk) 10:06, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for this. You will see from these examples, what I am trying to achieve. Hanworth Villa, Arsenal, Farnborough North End.
That should make it clearer now I guess?
One thing I am struggling with is getting an image added. I know you have to use an 'embedded' file but I can't get the image loaded from my Computer. I am a bit stumped.

I will keep trying though but if you have any tips, I would like to hear them. I'll try and work it out though

I am quite familiar with the football templates on Wikipedia. You have put the code into Template:Infobox football squad player rather than on the page itself. I will sort it out for you! Owain (talk) 16:22, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Sorry. I thought that's what I had to do. I am learning new things all the time. Once I've got the structure laid out like the football pages on Wikipedia, I'll be able to press on with more editing of the article.
