For Categorisation templates generally, see Wikishire:Categorisation templates
The following categorisation templates are placed on a Category page in order to place it within a broader category, usually the relevant county and a national category, for example Category:Ports of Cornwall is within Category:Cornwall and Category:Ports of the United Kingdom.
Theme
Purpose
- To save space
- To ensure consistency in categorisation, for example to avoid creating both "Rivers of Dorset" and "Rivers in Dorset".
- To order the Category in the national category by county
Examples
Template | Placed in | Categorises as |
---|---|---|
{{t&v|Angus}} |
Towns and villages in Angus | Category:Angus Category:Towns and villages of the United Kingdom |
{{National Trust properties|Angus}} |
National Trust properties in Angus | Category:Angus Category:National Trust for Scotland properties |
{{rivers|Angus}} |
Rivers of Angus | Category:Angus Category:Rivers of Britain and Ireland |
Use
The template will take one field: the county name. It incorporates {{namefix}}, so if the name of the county has variants, these will be dealt with and avoid having "in Argyll" and "in Argyllshire" versions side by side. In the case of county beginning "County", omit that word, so:
{{hills|Devon}} {{rivers|Antrim}}
Most of these templates are named so as to allow a simple "Copy & paste": where a new article creates a category (for example) "Category:National Trust properties in Derbyshire", simply copy and paste that title and change it to:
{{National Trust properties|Derbyshire}}
{{Cats}}
{{Cats}} is a general template for this purpose; it has nothing to do with moggies. Where there is no specific Categorisation template for a category, {{Cats}} may be used. It requires three fields: the name, the preposition and the county, so:
Category:Airports in Surrey would (and indeed does) contain:
{{Cats|Airports|in|Surrey}}
This tells Wikishire that "Airports in Surrey" should go in "Airports in the United Kingdom" not "of the United Kingdom".
