The River Wye at Rhayader, Radnorshire

Rhayader

Rhayader is a market town in Radnorshire, of which county it is one of the main centres. It The town had a population of just 2,075 in 2001 and is the first town on the banks of the River Wye, 20 miles below its source on the Plynlimon range of the Cambrian Mountains.

Rhayader sits roughly midway between North and South Wales on the A470, 13 miles north of Builth Wells and 30 miles east of Aberystwyth on the A44 on the way to Hereford; two of the most important trunk roads in the Cambrian Mountains. The mountain road to Aberystwyth is described by the AA as one of the ten most scenic drives in the world. (Read more)
