Woolsington is a village in the south of Northumberland to the north-west of Newcastle upon Tyne's city centre. The wider civil parish also includes Newbiggin Hall, Woolsington village and Newcastle Airport, embracing a population of 11,160 as of the 2011 Census.

The name 'Woolsington' is first attested in Charter Rolls of 1204, where it appears as Wlsinton. The name means 'the town or settlement of Wulfsige's people'.[1]

The great house of the village, Woolsington Hall, stands within its 92-acre estate by the village. The house is Grade II* listed but on the 'Heritage at Risk'. In December 2015 the hall was severely damaged by fire.[2]
