Wood Street Village is a village in Surrey, three miles west of Guildford, close to Worplesdon and falling within the latter's civil parish.

At the heart of the village is its village green with a delightfully wild village pond.

The parish church, St Alban's stands close by keeping a protective eye on the village; a very modern church, it looks as if it is all roof, but provides a fine space for worship.

Wood Street Village also has an infant school, post office and public houses.

History

There are a number of old houses in the village; some of the nearby farmhouses date from the 15th century. Wood Street School opened in 1878 and the Victorian part still stands. The current St Albans church building was completed in 1967. The village green features the only surviving ancient maypole in Surrey.[1]
