West Chiltington is a village in Sussex. It lies on the Storrington to Broadford Bridge road, 2.6 miles (4.2 km) north of Storrington.

The wider parish, which covers an area of 4,279 acres, includes two hamlets (Balls Green and Broadford Bridge) and at the 2011 Census this parish together with neighbouring Nutbourne had a recorded population of 3,375.

Church

The parish church is St Mary's. It is a Grade I listed building.[1] The church is of the late 11th century: from this period are the chancel and nave walls, with an aisle from the late 12th century. The church has a central bell-turret. There is a King-post roof dated 1602, when the broached, shingled spire was added to the bell turret.

Within, there are mural paintings of the 12th and 14th centuries.

Vineyards

Church Street

West Chiltington has three established vineyards. Friar's is tiny and not well known outside the village. Nutbourne is more well known locally and is gradually changing its grape varieties from Germanic types (Sylvaner and Muller-Thurgau) to French ones (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) but the vineyard of international fame is Nyetimber. Nyetimber is based on an old manor which reputedly was part of the dowry of Anne of Cleves when she married Henry VIII. The first vintage in 1992 was chosen for the Queen's Golden Jubilee dinner.
