Wegger Peak
British Antarctic Territory
King George Island
Summit: 1,150 feet; 62°5’48"S, 58°29’51"W

Wegger Peak is a mountain rising to about 1,150 feet on King George Island, amongst the South Shetland Islands of the British Antarctic Territory.

The hill stands to the west of Crépin Point and Mackellar Inlet of Admiralty Bay.

Following a survey of the area in December 1909, by the French Antarctic Expedition of 1908-10, the name Le Poing ('The Fist") was applied descriptively to a single summit to the south-west of Crépin Point; then following geological work in the area by Ferguson in 1913-14, the name was applied to the present feature. Following hydrographic survey of the area by Discovery Investigations in 1934-35, the name 'Le Poing' was applied either to Admiralen Peak or to a summit close to the east of it. Following air photography by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition in 1956-57, the present feature was renamed 'Wegger Peak' after Ole Wegger (1859-1936), Director for 47 years of Framnæs Mekaniske Værksted, Norway, shipbuilders who fitted the Admiralen with a slipway for whaling.
