Wayford is a village and parish on the River Axe in the Crewkerne Hundred of Somerset, three miles south-west of Crewkerne itself. The parish contains the hamlets of Oathill and Clapton.
History
Wayford Manor House was rebuilt around 1600 by Charles Daubeney, probably with William Arnold as master mason. The north wing was completed by Sir Ernest George in 1900.[2] Wayford Woods, close to the house, has an ornamental lake and is known for the large number of fairy doors it used to have.[3][4][5]
Religious sites
The Church of St Michael dates from the 13th century and has been designated as a Grade-II* listed building.[6] It was remodelled in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.
