Towie is a small hamlet and parish in Aberdeenshire, close to Alford and Lumsden. The hamlet itself is situated on the River Don.
The former name of the parish was Kilbartha, from a cell or church dedicated to St Bertha, and subsequently Kinbattoch, from its situation at the head of a grove. It is supposed to have derived its present appellation, signifying in the Gaelic language "the North Country", from its relative position in respect of other localities in the county.
Towie has a bowling club and a beautiful church with historic graveyard.
The village is the burial place of Major James Leith VC.
