Tornagrain is a hamlet in Inverness-shire, close to the Moray Firth coastland, on the A96 midway between Inverness and Nairn. Its name is form the Gaelic Tòrr na Grèine, meaning 'The Sunny Mound'.
The hamlet is to be found around seven miles northeast of the city of Inverness, and a mile and a half south of Inverness (Dalcross) Airport and of Castle Stuart Golf Course, which was developed in 2009. Tournagrain belongs to the Moray Estate, of the 20th Earl of Moray, who also owns a majority stake in the Inverness Airport Business Park.
The Earl has plans to expand Tornagrain into a community for 10,000 residents,[1] which plans have been approved by the planning authorities. The development builds upon the position on Inverness as the fastest-growing town of the Highlands. The intention is to create a mixed, balanced community.
