Thomson Rock is a hill rising to about 2,950 feet above sea level to the east of Mount Bagshawe amongst the Batterbee Mountains of Palmer Land, in the British Antarctic Territory.
Following surveys by the British Antarctic Survey from ""Stonington Island"" and ""Fossil Bluff"", 1962-72, the hill was named after Dr Michael Robert Alexander Thomson (1942-2020), geologist with the British Antarctic Survey from 1963; at Adelaide in 1964, ""Fossil Bluff"" in 1964-65, and ""Stonington Island"", 1965-66; Chief Geologist from 1984, Head of BAS Geosciences Division 1986-2002. Polar Medal 1969, 2nd clasp, 1989. BAS representative (1986-2002) and expert member on the Antarctic Pace-Names Committee.
