Windsor

Windsor is a charming town in eastern Berkshire, on the south bank of the River Thames, and centres upon Windsor Castle. Windsor Great Park and the meadows down to the river give the town a very green aspect.

The old town gathers around the castle and the river, opposite Eton in Buckinghamshire. The castle, the biggest in the land, is The Queen's principal residence and the town and its surroundings contain some of the most expensive and desirable housing in the United Kingdom.

Old Windsor, a village just over two miles to the south, predates what is now called Windsor by around 300 years; in the past Windsor was formally referred to as New Windsor to distinguish the two. (Read more)
