Water of Leith

The Water of Leith is the main river flowing through Edinburgh in Midlothian, to the port of Leith, where it flows into the sea in the Firth of Forth.

The river is twenty-two miles long, rises in the Colzium Springs amongst the Pentland Hills, flowng past the ruins of Cairns Castle and through many villages and down to Edinburgh. In Dean Village in the city, at the site of old watermills, the river flows through a deep gorge dramatically spanned by a bridge designed by Thomas Telford. (Read more)
